STATUES & MONUMENTS
This series in progress is based on equestrian monuments with the riders removed. I quite enjoy taking those powerful and celebrated figures out of the picture and putting the focus on the creature carrying them.
The flat statue (1982) was assembled in the Diego Rivera Gallery of the San Francisco Art Institute, suspended by wire. It was made of large sheets of cardboard covered in wallboard compound and painted with metallic powdered pigments and wax. Broken during disassembly, a group of students paraded it around the campus and threw it off the roof with a grand farewell!
